    Man Taluka – Brief Information

    1) Area

    Man Taluka covers a total geographical area of 668.04 sq. km.

    The headquarters of the taluka is Dahiwadi. There is no city or village named “Man” in the taluka. In fact, Man is the name of a river, and the taluka has been named after this river. Hence, Man essentially refers to Dahiwadi.

    While Dahiwadi is the administrative headquarters and has the status of a Nagar Panchayat, Mhaswad is the largest town in the taluka and is a Municipal Council.

    As this is a permanently drought-prone taluka, great importance is given to water resources. Therefore, instead of naming the taluka after a town, it has been named after the river Man.

    4) Historical Background

    • The Mandesha region was part of the empire of the Rashtrakuta king Manank (circa 375 AD). His capital was Manpur (Man), and it is believed that the region derived the name Mandesha from this fact.

    • Mahiman Gad Fort, one of the chain forts built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is located in this region.
